Get ready to be inspired by Ellis Arey, the breakout star from Channel 4’s The Piano, alongside one of Britain's best-loved comedians and impressionists Alistair McGowan, in a very special, free event.

The event will take place on 21st June at 2pm and brings together two remarkable people form different generation for a candid, fascinating and witty discussion about talent, resilience, opportunity and the transformative power of music.

Best knowm for his BAFTA-winning television series The Big Impression and a 35 year career spanning stand-up comedy, theatre, musical theatre and writing, Alstair has also become an acclaimed pianist - his debut classical album reaching number one in the UK Classical Charts.

During the event, Alistair will interview Ellis Arey, whose journey from growing up in poverty in Meanwood, Leeds to become one of the UK's most exciting young classical musicians is nothing short of remarkable. A film was made for Sky Arts, 'Working Classical Heroes' as well as Ellis being featured on Channel 4's The Piano.

Join us for an hour of music and conversation. Interspersed with three live piano performances from Ellis, the conversation will explore the realities of growing up without privilege, overcoming barriers and finding confidence through music.

About the Venue

Besbrode Pianos is situated in a Georgian Mill on the edge of Leeds city centre. It is a place where music, history and craftsmanship come together under one remarkable roof. Part showroom, part workshop, part gallery and part performance venue… home to one of the most extraordinary collections of pianos in the United Kingdom. This stunning red brick showroom has been an intimate venue over the last 20 years for a myriad of stand out performances.
