Gutermann, Art Nouveau, Bechstein Model C Grand Piano with an Inlaid Mahogany Case
A stunning, Bechstein Model C grand piano with a french polished, beautiful mahogany case inlaid with a variety of woods in an Art Nouveau design of flowers and tendrils. This piano had one previous owner Julius Gutermann, a wealthy victorian industrialist. Bechstein's records show this piano was delivered to Julius Gutermann in the town of Gutach, Breisgau on the 30th of November 1902. The piano was delivered to Vila Orehta named after Gutermann's six children Oskar, Richard, Erich, Hedwig, Thea and Annie. Professor Dr Sonja. Gunther, an Art Nouveau specialist in a description of the piano wrote: "Der Flugel ist etwas streng in der Kontur, die Ornamentik symmetrisch, Sie deutet in ihrer Herkunft auf Darmstadt hin" "The piano is somewhat severe in outline, the ornamentation symmetrical. That points its origin back to Darmstadt, Germany."
